Normalmente las alergias comienzan a manifestarse por efecto de los ácaros presentes en el hogar. Vivimos a diario rodeados de alérgenos que quizás no nos hemos dado cuenta que existen y están allí muy cerca de nosotros y lo mejor de todo, es que podemos eliminarlos, o al menos, minimizar su efecto dañino sobre nuestra salud.
En los dormitorios es donde más se acumulan ácaros, empezando por la cama, las sábanas y las fundas, por esto es bueno lavarlas seguido, idealmente cada tres días. Los cubrecamas y las frazadas, como generalmente se usan todo el año o media temporada, están mucho tiempo sin moverse y acumulan polvo y ácaros, así que también es bueno mandarlos a la tintorería una vez al mes.

Un dato clave, es que para matar a los ácaros, el agua del lavado debe estar sobre los 60°, sino permanecen vivos, y en el caso que queden residuos después de lavada la prenda, se le puede pasar una aspiradora para eliminarlos.

Las almohadas que más ácaros albergan son las fabricadas en lana y plumas. Lo recomendable es utilizar rellenos sintéticos. En el caso de las alfombras, lo ideal sería eliminarlas del todo, en caso que no se pueda hacer eso, hay que aspirarlas todos los días y hacerles un lavado desinfectante cada tres meses.


En vez de sacudir los muebles con un plumero, es preferible pasarles un paño húmedo, al igual que los pisos, que normalmente se barren en seco, es mejor pasarles un trapo húmedo que atrape el polvo y no lo deje volando en el aire, ya que a fin de cuentas volverá al mismo lugar.

Los suéters y tejidos conviene mantenerlos en bolsas cerradas, y toda la ropa del clóset bien protegida, a fin de evitar que se acumulen ácaros sobre ella. Si les pica el cuerpo cuando se ponen una chaqueta que no usaban hace largo tiempo, seguramente son los ácaros que les están caminando.

Un pequeño armario, caja, baúl o estantes para tener todos los objetos de utilización frecuente a mano pero guardados es muy útil. Piensen en agendas, credenciales de interés, tarjetas personales, pendrives USB, cargadores de celulares y reproductores multimedia y hasta sets de herramientas necesarias para mantenimiento de nuestra oficina. Un lugar especial para estos útiles es increíblemente útil, valga la redundancia, y no puede faltar a tu lado en tu oficina.
